Mary Magdalene Smith

Kansas City, Missouri, March 22, 2004- Mary Magdalene Smith, 93, formerly of Columbiana died at 5:33 p.m. Monday in New Mark Care Center.

She had moved to Kansas City to be near her daughter.

Mrs. Smith was born December 23, 1910 in Leetonia, daughter of Charles and Catherine Ann Murphy Garthwaite.

Magdalene lived in the Columbiana/Lisbon area her entire life with the exception of the last few years; her last local address was Columbiana Manor Apartments. She was formerly active in the Women's Guild at St. Jude Parish where she was a member. She and her husband operated the former Standard Oil Station at the corner of Salem & Main Streets where they served the community for 35+ years.

Her husband, William Neal Smith whom she married October 29, 1935, preceded her in death on November 27th, 1981.

She is survived by a daughter, Grace Ann Kramer of Gladstone, MO; three sons, William & Marcy Smith of Roswell Georgia, Richard & Linda Smith of Butler, PA, Edward & JoAnn Smith of Youngstown; six grandchildren and three great grandchildren; a brother-in-law Kenneth and his wife, Nedra Smith of Columbiana.

The Rev. Thomas G. Zeigler will celebrate a mass of Christian Burial at10 a.m. Saturday in St. Jude Catholic Church. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery at East Palestine.

Visitation will be at the Warrick-Kummer Funeral Home in Columbiana on Friday evening, March 26th from 6 to 8 p.m.
