Mary Ann Potesta

Leetonia - November 5, 2006 - Mary Ann Potesta, age 93, formerly of Walnut Street, died at 7:30 a.m. Sunday at the Salem Community Hospital.

Mrs. Potesta was born June 21, 1913 in Bagnoli del Trigno, Provincia Campobasso, Italy, a daughter of Ferdinando and Anna Mastrodenato Ciarniello and had lived in Columbiana County since 1972, coming from Youngstown. She was a 1932 graduate of the Rayen High School in Youngstown. She had been employed as a seamstress for many years, retiring in 1989. She was a member of the Robbins United Methodist Church, Washingtonville, the Bethel Class of the church, and a former member of the Pleasant Grove Presbyterian Church in Youngstown. She was a member of the Thursday Reading Club, the former OES Chapter in Leetonia, the Salem Chapter #334 Order of the Eastern Star and a charter member of the Ladies Bagnolese Club.

Her husband, Henry Potesta, whom she married July 14, 1932 died June 17, 1960. She is survived by a son, Eugene M. (Shirley Ann) Potesta of Columbiana; two sisters, Mrs. Florence DiGiacomo of Youngstown, and Mrs. Virginia Pallotta of Boardman; a brother, Fred Ciarniello, Jr. of Austintown; four grandchildren, Robert, Richard, and Ronald Potesta and Patricia Cusick and 11 great grandchildren.

Two sisters, Angeline Salata and Annie DiGiacomo and a brother, Dominic Ciarniello are also deceased.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at the Woods-Rettig Funeral Home, Leetonia, with Reverend Nicholas Cammarata officiating. Burial will follow in Lake Park Cemetery, Youngstown. Friends may call at the funeral home from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Tuesday. Salem Chapter will conduct Eastern Star services at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
