Salem - Mary E. Garrett, 93, of Salem, formerly of Kingwood Drive, Columbiana, died at 10:12 a.m. Monday, January 30, 2017 at the Salem Regional Medical Center, Salem.
Mrs. Garrett was born December 19, 1923 in McDonald, OH, a daughter of the late Robert J. and Hazel Christmas Rodgers. She was a graduate of Girard High School and the Hannah Mullins School of Practical Nursing, Salem. She had been employed at the Salem Community Hospital, Union Hospital in Dover, and Aultman Hospital, Canton. She was joint owner, with her late husband, of Garrett Consulting, Inc. and Curry Air and Hydraulic Industrial Shears.
She was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church of Columbiana, where one of her favorite things was singing in the choir. Her husband, Paul W. Garrett, whom she married March 26, 1943 died April 9, 2000.
She is survived by a daughter, Patricia (Thomas) Townsend of Canton; a son, Robert (Vicki) Garrett of Salem; a daughter in law, Shawn Garrett of Columbus; a sister, Theresa Rodgers of Girard; eleven grandchildren and several great grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by two sons, William Garrett and David Garrett; a sister, June Newell; four brothers, Edward Rodgers, John Rodgers, James Rodgers, and Joseph Rodgers; and grandson, Robert Garrett.
Funeral services will be held at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, February 2, 2017 at the Warrick-Kummer-Rettig Funeral Home, Columbiana, with Pastor Joshua Conley officiating. Burial will be in Hope Cemetery, Salem. Friends may call at the funeral home from 4-5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
