Leetonia - February 3, 2009 - Mary L. Floding, 100, of 288 State Street, died at 4:35 p.m. Tuesday at the Hospice House in Poland.
Mrs. Floding was born July 12, 1908 in Converse, Indiana, a daughter of Fred and Tressie Haggerty Smith, coming to this area as a child. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church. She was also a member of Our Community Club which was organized in the early 1930's to help their fellow neighbors. Mary was a Girl Scout leader for 15 years and loved traveling, gardening, cooking, her pets, and most of all, spending time with her family and friends.
Her husband, Homer William Floding, whom she married December 9, 1926 died September 18, 1976. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, George and Virgil Smith and two sisters, Grace Beth and Freida Hommer.
She is survived by a daughter, Lois Jane (Russ) Den Bleyker of Delta, Colorado; five grandchildren, Sherry Floding, Susan (Dave) Beardall, Michael (Sharon) Eddy, Mary Jane (Dan) Gray and Lorraine (Vinnie) Caliendo; three great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. She was very pleased to have five generations.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday at the St. Paul's Lutheran Church with Pastor Kari Lankford officiating. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery. Friends may call at the church from 10-11 a.m. on Friday.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to either Hospice House, 9803 Sharrott Road, Poland, OH 44514 or St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 29 Spruce Street, Leetonia, OH 44431.
Funeral arrangements were made by the Woods-Rettig Funeral Home, Leetonia.
