East Palestine - January 24, 2007 - Mary I. Eskay, 88, of 815 Kenmar Drive, formerly of Leetonia, died at 2:35 p.m. Wednesday at Assumption Village, North Lima, where she had resided 4 years.
Mrs. Eskay was born February 9, 1918 in Monongahela, PA, a daughter of Stephen and Irene Haluska Davner. She had lived in Leetonia for many years, moving to East Palestine in 1994. She had been employed as a press operator at WM Inc. in Washingtonville and prior to that had worked at the DanDee Company in Leetonia for several years.
She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Leetonia and Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, East Palestine. She had been a member of LCBA Branch #909 and the St. Patrick's Church Altar and Rosary Society.
She is survived by her husband, John A. Eskay, whom she married July 19, 1947; a daughter, Mrs. Rick (Mary Ann) Istnick of East Palestine, with whom they made their home; a son, John (Barbara) Eskay of Washington, PA; a brother, Bill Davner of Arizona; four grandchildren, Rick (Anna) Istnick of Jackson Township, OH, Brad (Shanna) Istnick of Kent, Michael Eskay and Krista Eskay, both of Washington, PA; and a great granddaughter, Sofia Istnick.
Mrs. Eskay was preceded in death by three sisters, Wilma Bailey, Anna Welling, and Helen Kiliany and four brothers, Joe Davner, Carl Davner, Steve Davner, and Frank Davner.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Leetonia, with the Reverend Thomas McCarthy officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Leetonia. Friends may call at the Van Dyke-Swaney Funeral Home, East Palestine from 5- 8 p.m. Friday where the St. Patrick's Church Rosary Group will lead Rosary at 4:30 p.m. Friday.
Material tributes may take the form of a donation to the Mt. Calvary Cemetery Association.
