Leetonia - Mary Kay Tunnat, age 76, of Leetonia, a wife, cherished mother, grandmother, sister, sister-in-law, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 23, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of compassion and love.
She was born on July 14, 1948, in Hampton, IA, daughter of the late Robert and Mary Murphy Bobby.
A true animal lover, Mary, opened her heart and home to every creature in need, providing care and compassion to those less fortunate. Her nurturing spirit extended beyond animals; she dedicated her professional life to nursing having worked at Salem Hospital, practicing in obstetrics and later helping individuals struggling with addiction, guiding them toward recovery and reintegration into society.
Mary had a passion for gardening and a love for birds, finding joy in the simple pleasures of life. She was known for her selflessness, always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. Her kindness and unwavering support touched the lives of many, and she will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to know her. Mary Kay's spirit will live on in the hearts of her family and friends, a testament to a life filled with love and compassion. Mary Kay was known for her infectious sense of humor, often lighting up the room with her quick wit and playful jokes that brought smiles and laughter to everyone around her. Mary Kay was a remarkable woman who stood firmly for her principles and values, always advocating for what she believed to be right and just. Her unwavering commitment to integrity and fairness served as a guiding light for those around her, inspiring others to stand up for their beliefs as well.
She is survived by her beloved daughters, Angela (Edward) Alesi of Columbiana and Heidi (Marc Buzzelli, M.D.) Buzzelli of Sewickley, PA, a brother, Pete (Janet) Bobby of Salem as well as her dear sister-in-law, Rebecca Hostetter, and her beloved niece, Teresa Fisher, and nephew, Robert "Bobby." Mary was also blessed with a beautiful family that included numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who were the light of her life.
Mary is now reunited with her husband, Walter Ernest Richard Tunnat, whom she married on August 27, 1987.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Florence Bobby, a brother, Pat Bobby, and a grandson.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, June 28, 2025, from 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm and again on Sunday, June 29, 2025, from 12pm -1pm at the Woods-Rettig Funeral Home, Leetonia.
Honors will be observed by the Nurse Honor Guard of Eastern Ohio on Saturday, at 3:45 pm at the funeral home.
Services will be held on Sunday, at 1:00 pm at the funeral home, with Chaplain Daniel Tayman officiating.
