Martha Joan (Vaughn) Guterba Beatty

Columbiana - Martha Joan Guterba Beatty, age 94, of Columbiana, passed away on Friday, April 26, 2024, at Windsor House at Parkside Health Care Center in Columbiana.

She was born on April 3, 1930, in Salem, the daughter of the late Willard L. Vaughn and Ruth L. Cope Vaughn.

Martha lived most of her life in Columbiana where she graduated from Columbiana High School as Valedictorian of her high school class. She went on to OHIO State University majoring in Secretarial Science for two years. She met and married Floyd W. Guterba in June 1950. They moved to Columbus where she obtained a position as secretary in the office of Vice President of Student Affairs at OSU. She was President of University Dames, an organization for the wives of students helping put their husbands through college.  Martha obtained a position as sales secretary for G.V. Weinstock of Nationwide Insurance Co. in Lisbon. She worked until her daughter was born. She raised her two children until she went to work for Hill, Barth & King, CPA's. She worked as their administrative secretary and then after the dissolution of her marriage to Floyd, Martha went to Youngstown State to get her bachelor’s degree in accounting. She worked for Health Maintenance Plan in Warren as the accounting supervisor, and later worked in Youngstown when the new building was built there. She then worked for the Ohio Heart Institute for five Cardiologists until she retired in 1995.  Martha was a Board Member of the American Lung Association where she served for six years. She was a member of the Columbiana & Fairfield Twp. Historical Society where she served 3 years as Treasurer and a member of the Genealogy Committee for 10 years. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church for 70 years where she had served as a Trustee and an Elder.

She leaves her daughter, Lorelei “Lori” (Rick) Vogel; her son Lee (Cindy) Guterba; five grandchildren, Christie (Josh) Vogel, Stephanie (Ryan) Vogel Ferry, Sierra Guterba, Renee Guterba Flowers, and Evan (Haleigh) Guterba; brother, Robert Vaughn, and two stepdaughters, Susan Libby and Mary (Scott) Bhe.

Martha’s husband, Jack W. Beatty, whom she married on September 18, 1982, preceded her in death on November 13, 2003.  She was also preceded in death by two stepsons, Rich and Robert Beatty.

The family will receive friends on Monday, May 6, 2024, from 3:30 pm - 4:30 pm at the Warrick-Kummer-Rettig Funeral Home in Columbiana.

Services will be held on Monday, at 4:30 pm, at the funeral home, with Pastor Fritz Nelson officiating.

Burial will take place at Columbiana Cemetery in Columbiana.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Warrick-Kummer-Rettig Funeral Home, Columbiana.
