Martha Boyd Hawkins, 81 of 46627 ST RT 558, New Waterford, Ohio died at 12:30 p.m. at Salem Community Hospital following a brief illness.
Born February 23, 1924 in Stoneboro, PA. to George Ernest and Edith Smith Boyd and was married to Dwain Hawkins on August 5, 1944 and moved to New Waterford where she resided until her death.
After graduating from Youngstown Business College, she became secretary at Northside High School in Youngstown and then retired after 25 years as secretary at Crestview High School.
Martha was an active member of the East Fairfield United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women, making many baby quilts for first borns in the church. She was in charge of the Crestview Churches Community Concern (4 C's) and delivered Meals on Wheels for 15 years. She was also a member and treasurer of Elkrun-Fairfield Friendly Homemakers Extension club and a recipient of the Melvin Jones Fellowship award from the Lions Club.
Surviving are her husband Dwain Hawkins of 60 years; a son Larry (Jolene) Hawkins of Oregon, Wisconsin, three daughters, Lynn (Charles) Garver of Kent, Ohio, Beth (Gary) Wisinski of Washington D.C., Patti (Bobb Holden) Hawkins of St Charles, Missouri, 6 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Her brother, Joe Boyd preceded her in death.
Friends may call Thursday 2-4 & 7-9 at Warrick-Kummer Funeral Home, 28 North Main Street, Columbiana, OH., and one hour prior to the services at the church.
Services will be Friday at 11:00 a.m. at the East Fairfield United Methodist Church with Rev. Michael Namy and Rev. Charles Ready officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to the East Fairfield United Methodist Church Memorial Fund, 45675 State Route 558, New Waterford, OH 44445.
