East Palestine- Marland Gilbert Ward Sr., age 75, of East Palestine, died on Thursday, April 14, 2016, at Circle of Care, Salem.

He was born on October 22, 1940 in Salem, a son of the late Gilbert Ward and Mabel Dodge Ward Young.

Marland had worked as a plant supervisor for Lockley Manufacturing Co. in New Castle and was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church, East Palestine. He was a member and Past Master of the East Palestine Masonic Lodge #417.

He enjoyed muskie fishing with his son as well as spending time with his family vacationing.

He is survived by his wife, Gloria Kell Ward, whom he married on February 20, 1960; a son, Marland G. (Debbie) Ward Jr. of Medina; a daughter, Debbie L. (Greg) Bakera of Erie, PA; a sister, Jonnette Welch of East Palestine; two brothers, Allan (Kathy) Young of Negley and Frank (Brenda) Young of Midwest City, OK; four grandchildren, Marland Ward III, Heather Newberry, John Bakera and Justin Bakera; mother in-law, Lucille Kell of East Palestine; his brother in-law and sister in-law, Jim and Sally Tusar of East Palestine; a nephew, Jim (Janie) Tusar Jr. of Poland and a niece, Melissa Butcher of Salem.

Marland was preceded in death by his parents and his father in-law, George John Kell.

The family will receive friends on Monday, April 18, 2016, from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at the Van Dyke-Swaney-Rettig Funeral Home, East Palestine where Masonic services will be observed at 8:00 p.m.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 19, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Mark McTrustry.

Burial will be at Crest Haven Memorial Gardens, New Waterford. Donations may be made in Marland's memory to the East Palestine Masonic Lodge #417.
