Columbiana - May 18, 2008 - Mark S. Rhodes, 93, of 4800 Renkenberger Road, died at 2:15 a.m. Sunday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. David Weaver.
Mr. Rhodes was born December 28, 1914 in Dayton, VA, a son of Webster Clay and Sarah Mabel Showalter Rhodes and had lived here most of his life. He was a self employed dairy farmer and also sold bulk foods for many years. He was a member of the Salem Mennonite Church, Leetonia.
His wife, the former Ina E. VanPelt, whom he married November 30, 1939 died February 8, 1986.
He is survived by five daughters, Mrs. Joel (Hazel) Mosemann of Newville, PA, Mrs. Harold (Wilda) Hege of Kenton, OH, Mrs. David (Eva) Weaver of Columbiana, Mrs. Harold (Beulah) Petre of New Waterford, and Mrs. Ronald (Dorothy) Cross of Tunas, Missouri; four sons, Webster (Clara Mae) Rhodes of Nashwauk, Minnesota, Lee (Mary Jane) Rhodes of Patriot, OH, Mark Allen (Mary Ellen) Rhodes of Columbiana, and Carl (Edna) Rhodes of Lisbon; four sisters, Edith Showalter of Harrisonburg, VA, Mrs. Willis (Esther) Rohrer of Dayton, VA, Mrs. Wilbur (Ida) Rohrer of Dayton, VA, and Norma Koogler of Dayton, VA; five brothers, Eber (Mary Grace) Rhodes of Dayton, VA, Reuben (Margaret) Rhodes of Harrisonburg, VA, Luke (Miriam) Rhodes of Ashland, OH, John (Louise) Rhodes of Dayton, VA, and Neil (Ellen) Rhodes of Dayton, VA; 77 grandchildren and 170 great grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by a son, Harvey Rhodes; three brothers, Harry, Frank, and Daniel, Rhodes; a grandson and four great granddaughters.
Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Salem Mennonite Church, Lodge Road, Leetonia, with David VanPelt, Nathan Hege, and Timothy Weaver officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant View Mennonite Cemetery. Friends may call from 2-4 & 6-9 p.m. on Tuesday at the church.
