Marjorie Louise Spires Swanson, 74, of Creek Road, New Waterford, died early Sunday morning in her sleep at Salem Community Hospital after a long illness with lung disease.

She was born Jan. 20, 1934, in Struthers, the only child of George and Mary Ruth Parson Spires. She had lived in the Columbiana-New Waterford area most of her life.

She was a graduate of North Lima High School, and had worked for many years as a legal secretary for Attorney Jack Kuhlman in Columbiana. She also worked many years a cook at the 7&14 Family Restaurant, from which she retired in 1998.

She is survived by three daughters: Marilyn Miller of New Philadelphia, Sharon (Edward) Shanks of Boardman, and Deborah Blose of New Waterford; a son, David Blose of New Waterford; three grandchildren, Arron Blose of New Philadelphia, and John and Jessie Shanks of Boardman; and one great-granddaughter.

Her husband, John Dustman Blose, whom she married in 1953, preceded her in death in 1962. Two later husbands, John Sinsley and Homer Swanson, also are deceased.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Warrick-Kummer-Rettig Funeral Home, Columbiana. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

The family asks that donations be made to the Salem Visiting Nurses Association in lieu of flowers.
