Margaret Audrey Schaefer, age 83, of 7782 W. South Range Rd. died at 2:37 p.m. Monday in the Essex of Salem.
She was born Aug. 16, 1922 in Washingtonville, daughter of Edward and Mildred Fosnacht Herman and had lived in the area all of her life.
Mrs. Schaefer graduated from Leetonia High School in 1940, was a Registered Nurse for Dr. Chester DeWalt in Columbiana, the former Central Clinic and the Salem Community Hospital for many years, retiring in 1980.
She was a member of the Greenford Lutheran Church, the Salem City Hospital Alumni Association, the Nightingale Nurses, was a Charter member NE Ohio Recovery Room Nurses Association and a board member and a lifetime member of the Lutheran Church Women.
Her husband, Bert D. Schaefer whom she married June 16, 1946, preceded her in death September 20, 1994. Three sons, Daniel B. (Martha) Schaefer of New Springfield, Edward J. (De Erla) Schaefer of Greenford and Charles D. (Debra) Schaefer of Columbiana; two sisters Mrs. Lillian Weikart of Columbiana and Mrs. Leila Eastek of Leetonia; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren survive her.
A sister, Myrna Bruderly, two grandchildren, Jonathan and Lisa Schaefer preceded her in death.
Services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Friday at the Greenford Lutheran Church where the body will lie in state from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. with The Reverend John P. Maroni officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenlawn Cemetery.
Friends may call 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday at Woods-Rettig Funeral Home in Leetonia.
Material tributes may take the form of donations to the church building fund, the Greenford Volunteer Fire Department or Hospice of the Valley in Salem.
