Margaret Rankin Rittenhouse

Margaret Rankin Rittenhouse, 90, of Singer Island, FL, formerly of Leetonia, died Monday, October 30, 2017 at Darcy Hall of Life Care.

She was born June 5, 1927, in Leetonia, OH, a daughter of the late William and Bessie Hallit Rankin.

A graduate of Leetonia High School, her Bachelor of Music degree was earned at Wittenberg University School of Music and she earned a Master of Music at Northwestern University School of Music. Margaret was a member of Alpha Xi Delta Fraternity and Sigma Alpha Iota, National Music Fraternity. She remained active in both alumni groups for a number of years, she served on the Board of Directors of Sigma Alpha Iota Philanthropies, Inc. and also served two terms as president of the Palm Beach Alumnae Association of Alpha Xi Delta. Professionally, she served on the faculty of Wittenberg University, The Sanford School, Central University of Iowa, Westminster Choir College of Princeton, NJ and Trenton State College (now the College of New Jersey.) She also was an organist at various churches where she was living. Margaret was a longtime member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Leetonia.

Her husband, Robert J. Rittenhouse, Ph.D. preceded her in death in 1997.

Mrs. Rittenhouse is survived by her sister, Pauline Rankin Mollenkopf of Willoughby; a nephew, David J. Mollenkopf of Pegram, TN and her nieces Diane Mollenkop-Hickling, Ph.D. of Knoxville, TN and Kay Mollenkopf-Valentine of Monument, CO.

Burial will be in the Rankin family plot in Oakdale Cemetery, Leetonia.
