Margaret Ann Peck, affectionately known as “Maggie” and “PITA”, age 80, of Cortland, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, October 17, 2024, at Trumbull Regional Medical Center following a brief illness.
She was born on September 20, 1944, in Youngstown, a daughter of the late Harold and Beatrice Carney Schottenberg.
Maggie had lived in Austintown, Liberty, and then Cortland since 1989 along with summers in North Benton. During her 30 year and two-week career at Packard Electric, she worked in many departments including the methods lab, copy center, and internal auditing. She enjoyed the problem solving and inquisitive nature of these assignments. In retirement Maggie was active as a member of the Cortland Beautification Committee, the Cortland News, and her beloved Prince of Peace Lutheran Church where she served on the church council and many community and service planning events.
Maggie will be remembered as a generous person who spontaneously bought lunch for those in the military, listened to the needs of strangers, and donated her blood to help others. At the time of her passing, she had given over 17 gallons throughout the years. Maggie was also the cross lady. She had a constant supply of small, colorful cross necklaces, which she liberally shared along with a message of God’s love for all.
Maggie is survived by her husband of fifty-nine years, Charles “Charlie” Peck; children, Michelle (Dennis) Ivey of Klein, TX and Chuck (Teresa) Peck of East Palestine; grandchildren, Rick (Stephanie) Peck, Katie (Austin Cope) Martin, Alex Peck, and Wade Ivey; great grandchildren, Kaleb, Blake, Jasper, Ryan, Lincoln, and Sadie, and by her sister, Mary Lou (John) Byrnes of Pittsburgh, PA. Family and friends are mourning a discerning, mischievous, and joyous soul. To that we say, “Love you, bye.”
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, October 30, 2024, from 10:00 am – 12:00 pm at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Cortland with a memorial service immediately following at the church, with Rev. David Vensel officiating.
In lieu of flowers, Maggie’s family would ask that her memory be honored by donating a pint of blood to the American Red Cross.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Woods-Rettig Funeral Home in Leetonia.
