Listen to Obituary

Leetonia - December 25, 2006 - Margaret A. "Peg" Clunen, age 79, of 100 High Street, died Monday at the Salem Community Hospital.

Margaret was born July 27, 1927 in Leetonia, a daughter of the late Anthony and Catherine Grunick Ferry and had lived here all of her life. She had worked at the former Dan Dee Chip Plant in Leetonia and then went to work at the former Neil's Restaurant in North Lima until they closed. She then opened her own restaurant, Peg's Village Restaurant in Columbiana which she owned and operated from 1969 until 1988. She was a wonderful cook and was famous for her bread pudding, her "homey" atmosphere, and her generosity to any and all, regardless of their ability to pay. She loved cooking for people and did so after her retirement, along with reading, crochet, and making beautiful afghans for family and friends.

She is survived her four loving children, whom she adored, loved, and lived for; daughters, Mrs. Mick (Dawn) Hall of Leetonia and Lynn Oesch, of Leetonia, with whom she made her home; two sons, Allen (Elaine) Gibson, Jr. of New Springfield and Gary (Debbie) Clunen of Boardman; two brothers, Jerry Ferry of Leetonia and Anthony Ferrell of Austintown; six grandchildren, Michael Hall, Jr. of Girard, Joseph Scott Oesch of Fort Myers, FL, Mrs. Todd (Melissa) Miller of Columbiana, Mrs. Michael (Lindsay) Morris of McDonald, Jayma Wells of South Carolina, and Jessica Wells of Columbus; and two great grandsons, Caidan Allen Morris and Wyatt Ervin Miller.

Four brothers, Frank, Carmen, Joe, and Robert Ferry preceded her in death.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church with the Reverend Thomas Eisweirth officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call at the Woods-Rettig Funeral Home, Leetonia, from 5-8 p.m. on Wednesday.
