Columbiana - September 30, 2006 - Margaret Louise Deem Barnes, age 84, of Columbiana, died Saturday at 12:33 p.m. at the St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Youngstown.

Mrs. Barnes was born April 29, 1922 in Racine, Ohio, a daughter of George and Bessie Garroll Deem and had lived in Columbiana since 1947. She was a graduate of the Racine High School and had been employed as a certified nurses aid at the Salem Convalescent Center in Salem and the Parkside Health Care Center in Columbiana for several years. She and her husband had also owned and operated the Hobby and Cycle Shop in Columbiana for 20 years.

She was a member of Zion Hill Church of the Brethren of Columbiana where she held many different offices in the church and is remembered as a caring Sunday School Teacher by many. She was also a member of the Columbiana Senior Citizens and Columbiana Church Women. She had been a volunteer in the Brethren Disaster Relief Programs in North Carolina several times.

Her husband, Robert W. Barnes, Sr. whom she married September 26, 1947 died March 25, 1995.

She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Willys (Sandra) Smith and Susan White, both of Columbiana, and Mrs. Larry (Patricia) Walters of Leetonia; four sons, Randall H. (Mary) Barnes and Russell (Diane) Barnes, both of Columbiana, Roger D. (Diana) Barnes of Galion, and Michael Barnes of Reston, VA; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Richard (Dora Lee) Treleven of Salem; three stepsons, Robert (Ruth) Barnes, Jr. of Columbiana, Ronald Barnes of Boardman and Richard (Ann) Barnes of Astatula, FL; a half sister, Georgia Smith of Barton, OH; 49 grandchildren, 45 great grandchildren, and 9 great great grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by two sisters, a brother, and a grandchild.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Zion Hill Church of the Brethren with the Reverend John Bartholomew officiating. Burial will follow in the Zion Hill Cemetery. Friends may call at the Warrick-Kummer Funeral Home, Columbiana from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Monday and at the church one hour prior to the services on Tuesday.

Memorial tributes may take the form of a donation to either the Zion Hill Church of the Brethren or Hospice of the Valley.
