Columbiana - Lucille Fuhrman, R.N. of St. Rt.517, died Friday, January 2, 2004 at the home of her daughter, Julia Davis, with her daughters at her side. Lucille Julia Jepson was born November 3, 1913 in LaCrosse, Kansas, daughter of Kenneth and Ellen (Williams) Jepson. Lucile was a graduate of Ohio State University, School of Public Health Nursing, in 1937. Initially she worked as a public health nurse in Michigan for the W. K. Kellogg Foundation until 1941. She then was employed by the U.S. Public Health Service in North Carolina. Later she was a Red Cross visiting nurse in Georgia, where she taught servicemen's wives how to care for their babies. Throughout her life she worked as a private duty nurse. Her husband, Wilbur Robert Fuhrman, Sr., whom she married February 21, 1942, before he left for WW II, died September 16, 1981. For 50 years, she was faithful member of East Fairfield United Methodist Church and the women's Joy Circle. Lucille also belonged to the Auxiliary of Benjamin Firestone American Legion Post #290, Steel Valley Square Dance Club, Niles SCOPE Senior Citizen Line and Square Dance Group and the Poland United Methodist Church Martha Lupse Bridge Club. Lucille was an advocate for higher education. She also was a gardener, planting trees and bulbs. For the past 20 years she had taken bouquets of flowers to various organizations to which she belonged. She leaves a son, Wilbur, Jr., of Pembrooke Pines, Florida; two daughters, Julia Davis of North Lima and Jean (Richard) Shellenbarger of Columbiana; a brother, Austin Jepson of Whispering Pines, North Carolina; a step sister, Mary Jane Cameron of Forest, Virginia and 5 grandsons; Adam and Brian Fuhrman, Dan Davis and Sam and James Frost. Lucille was preceded in death by her oldest daughter, JoAnn Houp, February 22, 1979, and by her grand daughter, Jennifer Houp, January 23, 1990. Her step brother, Kenneth Jepson, Jr., died in action in WW II. There will be a celebration of Her Life on Monday, January 5th, at Warrick-Kummer Funeral Home, 28 North Main Street, Columbiana. Calling hours will be from 11 am to 1 pm, with the service at 1 pm. Burial will follow at Columbiana Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Lucille requested that memorial contributions be made to the Fund for College Students of the East Fairfield United Methodist Church, 45675 State Route 558, New Waterford, Ohio 44445.
