Loretta Irene Newton, 96 formerly of Washingtonville, passed away at her daughter-in-law's (Delores Newton) house, Tuesday, September 2, 2008. She resided for the past 5 years at her son's Walter "Bing" Newton (Peggy) house.
Loretta was born in Washingtonville on February 10, 1912. She is the daughter of the late Charles and Anna Barton Senior.
Living her entire life in the area, she was employed in the cafeteria at Leetonia High School in the 1950's. She was a member of the Robbins United Methodist Church and the Bethel Class. She was a homemaker who was an excellent cook and baker. She was the best strawberry picker around and the queen of playing King's Corners. She loved and took pride in raising her sons, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Her husband Ted Newton, whom she married on October 10, 1930 died March 3, 1984.
She is survived by her son, Walter "Bing" Newton and wife Peggy of Leetonia, daughter-in-law, Delores Newton of Leetonia, 6 grandchildren, Debbie (Dan) Schloemer of Willard, Walter "Chip" (Bonnie) Newton of Leetonia, Gary Newton, Jr. of Columbiana, Lance (Sue) Newton of Lisbon, Lori Newton-Smith (Andy) of Leetonia, Tim (Missy) Newton of Columbiana, 12 great-grandchildren, Mandy and Mark Schloemer, Matt, Luke and Mara Newton, Abby and Cody Newton, Theo, McKinzie and Hunter Smith and Alyssa and Hannah Newton, 1 great, great, granddaughter, Hailey, and very caring nieces and nephews.
Two sons proceeded her in death, Theodore Newton in infancy and Gary L. Newton, Sr., two brothers, Charles "Wilbur" Senior and Lester Senior, three sisters, Elva Korn, Elsie Stolle and Lilly Hinchcliffe.
Loretta was a beloved, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great great grandmother, aunt, sister and friend. She loved spending time and watching her family grow.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at the Woods-Rettig Funeral Home, Leetonia, with Reverend Ricky Riggs officiating. Burial will follow in the Oakdale Cemetery.
Friends may call from 4-6 p.m. on Friday and one hour prior to the services on Saturday at the funeral home.
