Washingtonville – Lloyd J. Briggs, Jr. 81, of Washingtonville, died at 11:00 p.m. Monday, December 26, 2016 at Essex of Salem III.

Lloyd was born March 27, 1935 in Washingtonville, a son of the late Lloyd J. and Josephine Fagan Briggs and had lived in Washingtonville all of his life. Following the death of his mother, Lloyd was raised by the Longbottom family in Washingtonville.

He had been employed as a mechanic for Myers Equipment, of Canfield for many years and also worked as a custodian for Leetonia Schools and as a driver for Ed Geary Towing for several years.

He was a member of the Robbins United Methodist Church, where he was very active and also had played “Santa Claus” for various churches and activities for over 40 years.

Lloyd is survived by his wife, the former Cora J. Townsend, whom he married November 30, 1957; a daughter, Jean M. (Bret) Luxeuil of Salem; a son, Lloyd E. Briggs of Salem; a grandson, Marcel Edward Luxeuil of Salem; a sister in law, Becky Perry of Leetonia; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 31, 2016 at the Robbins United Methodist Church with Pastor Cyndi Midlick officiating. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery, Leetonia. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Friday at the Woods-Rettig Funeral Home, Leetonia and at the church one hour prior to the services on Saturday.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Valley or the Robbins United Methodist Church.

The family would like to thank the staff and nurses at Essex of Salem III for the wonderful care they gave Lloyd.
