Lisbon March 20, 2009 Leila Rae Herold, 63, of 6296 Gamble Road, formerly of 885 Prospect Street, Salem, died on Friday after a long battle with Parkinsons Disease.

The daughter of the late Raymond and Ethel Herold, Rae worked as a furniture designer and assistant plant manager at Ort Furniture for 43 years. She was a member and past Council President of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church of Salem. During Raes rewarding life, she enjoyed camping, wine-making, playing and coaching softball, and being with family and friends. Rae was also a 10 year Cancer Survivor.

She was preceded in death by an older brother, James Robert Herold, a niece, Pamela Compton Mason, and Robert Perkins.

Survivors include her sisters, Florence Ann Wilson and Marylen Compton, both formerly of Washingtonville; her caregiver and companion, Helen Perkins and Lori Schneider, a longtime friend; nieces Joyce Compton and Kelly Spanninger, Cindy Wilson, Tamye Simms, and Karen (Tim) Grecko; three great nieces, Phylicia, Lyndsay, and Leslie Simms; and a great nephew, Jacob Simms. Her extended family includes Jason (Ashlee) Perkins Family, Erin (Jon) Newburn Family, and Diane Perkins.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Salem with Pastor Connie Sassanella officiating. Burial will follow in Washingtonville Cemetery. Friends may call at the Woods-Rettig Funeral Home, Leetonia from 4-7 p.m. Sunday and at the church from 10-11:00 a.m. on Monday.

In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that monetary donations be made to the Rob Perkins Memorial Scholarship c/o Leetonia Schools, 450 Walnut Street, Leetonia, OH 44431.
