Columbiana - June 20, 2008 - Lea C. Jones, 73, of 333 W. Salem Street, died at 2:03 p.m. Friday at Salem Community Hospital.
Mr. Jones was born December 9, 1934 in Salem, a son of George W. and Olie May Gardner Jones and had lived in Columbiana County all of his life.
Lea was a fabrication fitter and worked for various manufacturing companies in the area including Strohecker Inc., L.W. Nash and Crossley Economy in East Palestine and Electric Furnace in Salem. He was associated with Philadelphia Church of God.
He is survived by two daughters, Cynthia (William) Dodd of East Palestine and Laurie (Daniel) Hovorka of Salem; a son, Gilbert (Tammie) Jones of Salem; four sisters, Fern Belzano of Buffalo, NY, Wilma (William) Janowiak of Salem, June (Ray) Snyder of Austintown and Ruth Stoddard of Salem; two brothers, Arthur Jones of Wyoming and Glenn (JoElla) Jones of Texas; four grandchildren, Courtney Sanchez, Erin Hudson, Clayton Jones, and Amanda Jones; three step-grandchildren, Joseph, Robert and Daniel Hovorka; two great grandchildren, Alexandra Jones and Mallory Hudson; and five step- great grandchildren, Kayla Hovorka, Morgan Hovorka, Jaden McFadden, Logan Hovorka and Laura Hovorka. His grandchildren were the light of his life.
He was preceded in death by seven sisters, Ida Vender, Alice Ozenghar, Lorene Diehl, Bernice Groves, Rhea Cox, Hazel Jones and Gayle Jones; and two brothers, Charles Jones and Jack Jones.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at the Van Dyke-Swaney-Rettig Funeral Home, East Palestine with Mr. Robert Helbeck, Minister officiating. Burial will follow in Crest Haven Memorial Gardens. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
