Lawrence Wellman Stacey

Columbiana, OH-July 3, 2012-Lawrence Wellman Stacey, 78, passed away Tuesday, July 3, 2012 at his home.

Larry was born August 20, 1933 in Salem, a son of Otto and Irma Stacey and had lived in this area all of his life.

Larry was certified as an Eagle Scout in 1949. He was a 1951 graduate of Columbiana High School and received his law degree from The Ohio State University in 1958. Attorney Stacey was Past President of the Columbiana County Bar Association from 1987-88 and served on the Ohio State Bar Association Council of Delegates and Board of Governors. He was a fellow of the Ohio State Bar Foundation and Assistant Attorney General for the State of Ohio. Attorney Stacey received recognition of 50 years of service as an attorney and counselor of law in 2009.

Larry served in the US Air Force and was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Columbiana, Allen Lodge #276 F&A in Columbiana, Salem Commandery No 42 Knight Templar, Grand Council Royal and Select Masons of Ohio, Royal Arch Masons of Ohio, the Shriners, Delta Sigma Phi fraternity, York Drexler Post #5532 VFW, Washingtonville and the Benjamin Firestone Post #290 American Legion, Columbiana. He was also a life member of The Ohio State University Alumni organization and was an avid OSU fan.

His wife, the former Patricia Hum, whom he married September 17, 1955, died April 8, 2009.

He is survived by two daughters, Kim (Mark) Bivens of Charlotte, NC and Stephanie Stacey (Lou Gawron) of Columbiana; a son, Lawrence (Lisa) Stacey II of Columbiana; a sister, Jane Charvat of New York; six grandchildren, Emma Bivens and Hannah Bivens, Lawrence Stacey III, Jonathan Stacey, Mackenzie Stacey and Connor Stacey.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday at the Columbiana Cemetery Chapel. There are no calling hours. Burial will follow in the cemetery.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Columbiana.
