Columbiana - February 8, 2011 - Laura Jane Lockard, 85, of 219 Allen Ave. died at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at her home.
She was born September 23, 1925 a daughter of Earl and Sara Nace Bergman in Blairsville, PA.
During WWII she assembled hand grenades at Paragon Industries in Dowingtown, PA and was cryptographer in Virginia. She retired from South Range Schools as a crossing guard in Greenford and was a homemaker. She lived in Greenford, Ohio for 30 years coming to Columbiana in 1987.
Laura Jane was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Columbiana, where she served as deacon. She attended Robbins United Methodist Church, Washingtonville. She was a volunteer for R.S.V.P. Meals on Wheels and member of the Columbiana Senior Citizens.
Her husband, Clyde Henry Lockard, of 60 years died January 22, 2008.
She is survived by two sons, Danny L. of Columbiana, OH and Timothy Allen of Phoenix, AZ.
Funeral services will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, February 10, 2011, at the Warrick-Kummer-Rettig Funeral Home, Columbiana with Pastor Teresa Smolka officiating. Graveside services will also be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday in Blairsville Cemetery, Blairsville, PA. Friends may call from 4-6 p.m. Thursday at the Warrick-Kummer-Rettig Funeral Home, Columbiana.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Columbiana Library or Robbins United Methodist Church, Washingtonville.
The family would like to thank Hospice of the Valley for their compassion and care of Laura Jane during her final weeks.
