Lanorma Fay (Zimmerman) Shirey

ANAHEIM HILLS, CA – LaNorma Fay (Zimmerman) Shirey, 94, of Yorba Linda, California, formerly of Columbiana and Green Township, died Wednesday, July 25, 2018 at Meridian Assisted Living.

Born July 6, 1924, in Columbiana, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Homer and Catherine (Shearer) Zimmerman.

LaNorma was a 1942 graduate of Columbiana High School.  Following graduation, she headed to California and, along with a classmate and friend from Leetonia, worked until the end of the war at the Lockheed Aircraft Plant in Burbank.  She was involved with the assembly of the P-38.  After returning to Ohio, she married Paul Shirey on October 12, 1946.  He preceded her in death on January 23, 1996.

She was a homemaker and worked part-time at Bennett’s Greenhouses during their busier periods, something she looked forward to each year. Throughout her life LaNorma enjoyed sewing, needle craft, baking, flower gardening and bowling with “the girls.” She loved vacationing, socializing and playing cards with a close circle of nearly life-long friends.  In her retirement years, LaNorma cherished spending the winter months in California with her son, daughter-in-law and two beloved grandchildren.

LaNorma is survived by a son, Dennis (Rose Marie) Shirey of Yoba Linda, California, two grandchildren, Stephanie and Trevor Shirey, and sisters Vivian Wenderoth and Joan Gaskill, both of Columbiana.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Evelyn Cross (2005) and Jane Garrity (2007) and a brother, Larry Zimmerman (2006).

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 8, 2018, at the Warrick-Kummer-Rettig Funeral Home, Columbiana, with Pastor Mike Knauff officiating.  Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services at the funeral home.  A Celebration of Life Luncheon for family and friends will follow the service.

A private burial will be held at Hope Cemetery, Salem.
