Leetonia, OH-March 15, 2004-Kenneth Franklin Hinten, age 83, of 5701 Leetonia Rd. died Tuesday at 12:10 a.m. at St. Mary's Alzheimer's Center, Columbiana following a long illness.

Mr. Hinten was born September 14, 1921 in Leetonia, a son of Donald and Olive Morris Hinten and had lived in this area all of his life.

He delivered bread for his parents during the recession and then worked with Conservation Camps and learned horticultural training from the Baumgardeners. He graduated from the Alliance Machine School and owned and operated a lawn mower business, Hinten Power and Equipment. He then opened his own machine shop, Hinten Machine, where he also trained students from the Joint Vocational School.

He served in the US Air Corp during World War II where he was a ball tourret bombardier flying with B24 bombers.

He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Leetonia. He was a former member of the Leetonia Ruritans and Masonic Lodge F& AM #401. He loved flying, golfing, boating, gardening and inventing. Some of his inventions include wheelchair leg extenders, hospital bed mobility bars, and faucet lever extenders. He also created his own lawn roller and a set of gang mowers.

His wife of 63 years, the former Lovina Floor, whom he married September 14, 1941, died October 30, 2004.

He is survived by his daughters, Mrs. Patricia Williams of New Port News, VA and Rev. Deborah J. Hinten, MS of Leetonia; and a brother, Glenn (Betty) Hinten of GA.

A sister, Alberta Dowd and two brothers, Ralph Hinten and Howard Hinten are deceased.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday March 22, 2005 at the Woods-Rettig Funeral Home, Leetonia with Pastor Kari Lankford officiating. Burial will follow in Lisbon Cemetery. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
