Columbiana, OH-April 19, 2010-Kenneth Martin Baker, 84, of Columbiana, died at 12:00 p.m. Monday at Salem Community Hospital.
Kenneth was born August 23, 1925 in Elkton, a son of James and Lorraine Martin Baker and had lived in this area all of his life.
He was a 1943 graduate of Leetonia High School and served during World War II as a staff sergeant in the US Air Corp 7th Bomb Group 10th Air Force for three years. Kenneth worked for Heim Sheet Metal of Lisbon as a sheet metal worker with Union Local #5. He was a 54 year member of St. Jacob's United Church of Christ where he had served as a deacon, an elder and the Sunday School treasurer. He was also a member of the Joe Williams Post #131 American Legion in Leetonia, a life member of the York Drexler Post #5532 VFW in Washingtonville and New Lisbon Lodge #65 F.&A.M.
He is survived by his wife, the former Evelyn Farmer, whom he married July 6, 1956; a daughter, Kathy (Glenn) Hostetter of Leetonia; two grandchildren, Jason Fitzsimmons and Abby Fitzsimmons; and a great granddaughter, Gracie Fitzsimmons.
He was preceded in death by a sister and brother-in-law, Lois and Lloyd Apple.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday at St. Jacob's United Church of Christ with the Reverend Jenna Brown officiating. Burial will follow in St. Jacob's United Church of Christ Cemetery. Friends may call from 5-8 pm Wednesday at the Warrick-Kummer-Rettig Funeral Home, Columbiana and one hour prior to the service Thursday at the church.
Material tributes may be made in Kenneth's memory to the church memorial fund.
