Columbiana-Kenneth Charles Alford, Sr. 91, died at 6:22 pm Sunday, April 14, 2013 at Essex I of Salem.
Mr. Alford was born February 25, 1922, in Crimora, VA, a son of Paul and Minnie Taylor Alford and had lived in the East Liverpool, Wellsville and Columbiana area spending winters in Leesburg, FL.
Kenneth had worked as a roller in the cold strip for Crucible Steel in Midland, Pa for 28 years. He served in the US Navy during World War II as a 1st class machinist mate. He was a member of the DAV, Elks and the VFW in East Liverpool.
Kenneth was an avid outdoorsman all of his life. He was a passionate hunter and fisherman winning many bass tournaments in Florida. As a skilled marksman he also won many trap shooting contests. He was a skilled private pilot and flew for many years.
He is survived by his daughter, Nyla (Arthur) Gallina of Brimfield; two sons, Joseph (Kitty) Alford of Oak Island, NC and Kenneth "Buck" (Billie) Alford, Jr., of Columbiana; his companion, Dorothy Bott of Columbiana; six grandchildren; five great grandchildren; three sisters, Loretta (Jim) Montgomery and Gloria Landfried both of East Liverpool and Phyllis Trainer of Wellsville; and a brother, Paul (Gladys) Alford of Salineville.
He was preceded in death by his wives, Ruth Alford and Miriam Alford, three sisters, Verla Swogger, Mary Kireta and Frances Stofman and two brothers, George Alford and Jerry Alford.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, April 27, 2013 at the Warrick-Kummer-Rettig Funeral Home, Columbiana with Pastor Kari Lankford officiating. Military honors will be accorded by the Benjamin Firestone Post #290 Honor Guard following the service.
