Julieann Miles

Salem-Julieann L. Miles, 62, of 2379 Tanglewood Drive, died at 12:55 p.m. Saturday, December 18, 2010 at the Hospice House, Poland of a brain tumor.

Mrs. Miles was born August 17, 1948 in Wilkes Barre, PA, a daughter of William and Julia Lawall Lane.

Mrs. Miles earned her Bachelor of Science and a Master's Degree from Youngstown State University and she obtained a second Master's Degree from Westminster College. She taught high school English and Speech at the Salem High School and was a Martha Holdens Jennings Scholar. She also was an elementary and middle school counselor for the Columbiana Exempted Schools for 22 years, retiring in 2008.

She was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church, Salem, the Ohio Education Association and the Salem Senior Mothers' Club. She was a past member of the Salem Junior Mothers' Club, the National Education Association, the Columbiana Education Association, and the Ohio School Counselor's Association.

She was preceded in death by her father, William Lane and a grandmother who was a part of their family home, Elizabeth Lawall.

Besides her mother, Julia Lane, of North Lima, she is survived by her husband, Robert A. Miles whom she married August 21, 1971; a daughter, Meredith Miles of Columbus; a son, Michael Miles of Akron; and a sister, Liz Lane of Columbus.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 22, 2010 at St. Paul Catholic Church, Salem, with the Reverend Robert Edwards officiating. Entombment will be in Green Haven Memorial Gardens, Austintown.

Friends may call at the Warrick-Kummer-Rettig Funeral Home, Columbiana from 3-5 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday.
