Salem - Joseph E. VanPelt, age 72 of Salem, passed away on Friday, August 22, 2014 at the Cleveland Clinic following a brief illness. He was born at Salem, OH on May 15, 1942 to the late Charles and Iva Witmer VanPelt and married Louella Hurst on June 6, 1964.
He was a lifelong area farmer. For the last number of years he raised and sold vegetables at the VanPelt Farm Market. He was a faithful member of the Salem Mennonite Church where he served as deacon.
He is survived by his wife, Louella; a daughter, Katrina VanPelt; sons, Linford (Luella) VanPelt of New Waterford, Curtis (Barbara) VanPelt of Salem, Cletus (Margaret) VanPelt of Columbiana, Daniel (Lisa) VanPelt of Leetonia, Arlin (Beulah) VanPelt of Salem, and Lamar (Rhoda) VanPelt of Danville PA; brothers, Roy VanPelt of Mt. Hope, OH, David VanPelt of Columbiana, Ivan VanPelt of Columbiana; sisters, Loretta (Marvin) Good of Dalton,OH and Emma Ruth Walker of Rittman; and 39 grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother and three sisters.
Viewing will be held at the Salem Mennonite Church, 40725 Lodge Road, Leetonia, OH 44431 on Tuesday, August 26, 2014 from 1-4 and 6-9 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the church at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 27, 2014. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Warrick-Kummer-Rettig Funeral Home, Columbiana handled the arrangements.
