SALEM - Joseph “Joe” T. Gbur, 74, of Salem, died on Saturday, Dec. 26, 2015, at St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown.
He was born on Aug. 28, 1941, in Washingtonville, the son of the late Joseph A. and Veronica M. (Koches) Gbur.
Joe was a veteran of the United States Army and had worked as a draftsman for over 40 years, retiring in 2008. He was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church in Salem and belonged to several area clubs including the Eagles and American Legion in Leetonia, Hose Club in Salem and the Jednota Lodge in Cleveland.
Joe enjoyed gardening, cooking and trying new recipes. He also enjoyed golfing and even had a hole-in-one on Nov. 16, 1975, at Mill Creek Golf Course. He was an avid Notre Dame football fan who absolutely admired Coach Lou Holtz.
He is survived by his wife, Grace L. (Miglarese) Gbur, whom he married on June 24, 1967; a son, Ryan J. (Robin Farquhar) Gbur of Ravenna; two grandsons, Ian J. Gbur and Alex J. Gbur; his sister, Frances M. (Nick) Jeswald of Poland; a niece, Diana M. (Larry) Ornelas of Poland; and a nephew, Nicholas J. (Phyllis) Jeswald of Poland.
The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to noon Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2015, at the Woods-Rettig Funeral Home in Leetonia.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2015, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Leetonia. Burial will be at the Mount Calvary Cemetery in Leetonia.
