Amherst - John Michael Stefanick, 62, of Amherst, formerly of the Youngstown area, died Friday, September 23, 2011 at his home.

Mr. Stefanick was born June 26, 1949 in Dunbar, PA, a son of Mike and Mary Kolat Stefanick, Jr.

He was a graduate of Youngstown East High School where he played football and was an All City selection. He served in the US Army during the Vietnam War. He worked for 13 A½ years with US Steel at the Ohio Works and later the Lorain Works. He retired in August 2011 from P. C. Campana Steel Mill, Inc. after 27 years as a tubular machine operator.

He was a member of the Amherst American Legion Post 118, Amherst VFW, Amherst Fraternal Order of Eagles and the Knights of Columbus. John was an avid sportsman, especially boating and fishing on Lake Erie as well as hunting and golfing. He played in the Knights of Columbus Golf League, American Legion League and tournaments.

John is survived his mother, Mary Stefanick of Columbiana; his siblings, Julia (Richard) Paris of Lisbon, Charles (Connie) Stefanick of Columbiana, Daniel Stefanick of Youngstown, and Anna (Kenneth) Yacavone of Poland; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Mike Stefanick, Jr. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, September 30, 2011 at the Warrick-Kummer-Rettig Funeral Home, Columbiana with the Reverend Thomas G. Ziegler officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Youngstown. Friends may call from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
