East Palestine-February 3, 2009-John F. Morton, Jr., 80, of 141 N. Pleasant Drive, died at 7:30 a.m. Tuesday at his daughter's home.
Mr. Morton was born February 25, 1928 in Chester, West Virginia, a son of John F. and Hulda Ayers Morton, Sr. and had lived in this area since 1968 coming from Calcutta.
John was a welder for the former Insul Company in East Palestine retiring in 1986. He had also worked for S&W Construction. He was a member of Longs Run Presbyterian Church, Calcutta and served in the US Army Air Force.
His wife, the former Ina Rowley, whom he married October 18, 1952 died March 27, 1986.
He is survived by four daughters, Sue (Bob) Dunn of East Palestine, Marcy (Andrew Bowell) Morton of Youngstown, Mary Jane (Ralph) Scott and Sondra (Gary Chirico) Rimoldi of East Palestine; a sister, Shirley (Eugene) Montgomery of Wellsville; seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
A daughter, Cheryl Ann Morton; five sisters, Stella Young, Della Harrington, Pauline Novack, Iris Woody and Mary Newlan and a brother, Roy Morton are deceased.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday at the Van Dyke-Swaney-Rettig Funeral Home, East Palestine with Pastor David Sutton officiating. Burial will follow in Long's Run Cemetery where military honors will be accorded. Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
