New Springfield-March 9, 2012-John L. McMillin, Sr., 86, of New Springfield, died at 7:20 am Friday at Masternick Memorial.
Mr. McMillin was born July 22, 1925 in East Palestine, a son of Henry F. and Ila Eakin McMillin and had lived in this area all of his life.
John worked for the former Neil Motors for 20 years. He also had worked for the former Kenmar Division of Ethan Allen Furniture in East Palestine.
He was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church of New Springfield. He was also a member of the Aut Mori Grotto in Youngstown. John was active with the Clown Unit where his clown name was Mac. He also belonged to The Old Timers and The Greeters. He was 50 years member of the East Palestine Lodge #417 F.&A.M. and a life member of Edward L. McGuckin Post #4579 VFW, East Palestine. John served in the US Navy with the 35th Special Battalion in the Pacific Theater during World War II and was a member of the Navy Seabee Veterans of America in Youngstown.
John is survived by his wife, the former Edice Gayle Harmon, whom he married October 11, 1946; two daughters, Barbara (Bill) Jones of Chesapeake, VA and Kelly Spanos of New Springfield; a son, John "Jack" (Karen) McMillin, Jr. of East Palestine; six grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three sisters, R. June McMillin, Doris McMillin and Vanessa Booth; and a brother, William McMillin.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Monday, March 12, 2012 at the Van Dyke-Swaney-Rettig Funeral Home, East Palestine with Pastor Aimee Raymond officiating. Burial will follow in Glenview Cemetery where military honors will be accorded. Friends may call from 4-7pm Sunday at the funeral home where a Masonic Service will be held at 7:00 pm.
