NEW WATERFORD - Final services will be held to celebrate the life of John H. Hurst of New Waterford on Tuesday at 11:00 a.m.
John passed away at the age of 72 on Thursday at 3:31p.m. at Salem hospital following a cerebral hemorrhage.
He was born July 18, 1932 in Louisville, New York, as the son of Hattie Finnie Hurst and William Hurst. He moved to the community when he was seven years old.
Mr. Hurst was a 1951 graduate of New Waterford High School, a Republic Steel retiree of 32 years, and a dairyman. He will be fondly remembered for his quick wit, devilish pranks, and generosity.
Mr. Hurst was married on June 29, 1951 to his high school sweetheart, the former Norma Wilson. He enjoyed 53 years of marriage with his loving wife who survives him, along with, four daughters, Mrs. Keven (Beverly) Whitehead, Mrs. Steve (Jean) Wolfe, Mrs. Philip (Linda) Murphy, and Mrs. John (Bonnie) Parrish; two sons, Mr. Robert Hurst and Mr. Fred Hurst; one sister, Mrs. Glen (Elaine) Rose of Lisbon, and two brothers, Mr. Jim Hurst of Salem, and Mr. Richard Abrams of Canal Fulton. He was also blessed with thirteen grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, and five great-great grandchildren who survive him.
He is preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Mr. Sam Hurst, a son, Mr. John L. Hurst, and two infant daughters.
The family will welcome friends at the Warrick-Kummer Funeral Home in Columbiana on Monday evening from 5p.m. to 8p.m. Pastor Kari Langford will conduct a final service at Warrick-Kummer on Tuesday at 11:00a.m. He will be laid to rest at Crest Haven Memorial Gardens, New Waterford, following the service.
