New Springfield, OH-August 5, 2007-John Wayne Hatala, age 22, of 3183 Columbiana Road, died Sunday evening following an accidental electrocution while on his ATV.

John Wayne was born September 2, 1984 in Salem, a son of John William Hatala and Linda Swearengen Hatala.

He was a construction laborer for L.E.B. Contracting and attended St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, New Middletown. John Wayne was a member of the Benjamin Firestone Post #290 American Legion, Columbiana and the New Waterford Clipper Aerie #2415 FOE. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing and canoeing, dirt bikes and four wheelers.

He is survived by his mother and step father, Linda and Robert Yarian of New Waterford; his father, John William Hatala of Columbiana; a sister, Rebekah Gillespie of Columbiana; two brothers, Randy Charles Hatala of Columbiana and John Michael Hatala of Elizabethtown, PA; maternal grandmother, Kathleen Swearengen of Columbiana; paternal grandparents, John Michael and Patricia Ann Hatala of Poland; his uncle Wayne Groves of Jacksonville, FL; three aunts, Debbie (Bruce) Kowal of Poland, Karen (Ben) Chaszeyka of New Springfield, Cheryl (Tom) Fabian of Tempe, AZ; a niece Cloey Gillespie; two nephews, Conner and Christian Gillespie; and his dog Jake.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Robert Swearengen.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 11, 2007 at the Warrick-Kummer Funeral Home, Columbiana with Deacon Ray Hatala officiating. Friends may call from 1-3 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial tributes be made to the Alzheimer's Association or the American Cancer Society.
