John T. Gibson

Royal Oak, MD- John T. Gibson, age 77, of Royal Oak, MD., formerly of Leetonia, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Tuesday, November 27, 2018 at University of Maryland Shore Medical Center at Easton.

He was born on July 17, 1941 in Salem, a son of the late James and Catherine Harkins Gibson.

Growing up in Leetonia, John attended St. Patrick Catholic Church and graduated from Leetonia High School in 1959.  Following high school, John served in the United State Army.  He was both owner and operator of Gibson Electric, where he successfully ran his own electrical contracting business with his wife, Mary. He was an avid outdoorsman, who loved to be in the great outdoors farming his garden, fishing or planting his maple and oak trees. John will certainly be remembered like an oak tree – strong, rugged, a presence. However, above all else, John put his family first, giving the gift of time, laughter and love to his family was the most precious commodity he could provide.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Woods Gibson whom he married on August 6, 1966; son, John (Becky) T. Gibson, II of Annapolis, MD; daughter, Michele (Rich) Reiter of Crofton, MD; Sister, Nancy Gore of Lothian, MD, and by four grandchildren, Lila and Betty Gibson, and Sydney and Sam Reiter.

John was preceded in death by one sister, Mary O’Day and four brothers, James, Robert, Richard “Dickey” and William Gibson.

A Memorial Mass will be held on Monday, December 3, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Leetonia, with Father Robert Edwards officiating.

Burial will be at Mount Calvary Cemetery, Leetonia, where military honors will be accorded by the Salem Honor Guard.
