John A. Dilling

New Waterford - John A. Dilling, 86, of 3311 Waterford Road, died at 2:45 p.m. Wednesday, December 12, 2012 at his home with his family at his side.

Mr. Dilling was born March 28, 1926 in Columbiana, a son of the late George and Mary Houp Dilling and lived in this area all of his life. He served in the US Army during WWII. He was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds received in Germany. He had been a self employed dairy farmer for many years and also was a bus driver for Crestview Schools for many years.

He was a member of the New Waterford United Presbyterian Church and was an avid fisherman and loved to garden.

He is survived by his wife, the former Helen B. Marshall, whom he married June 18, 1948; three sons, John A. (Diane) Dilling of New Waterford, James A. Dilling of North Fort Myers, FL, and Kevin L. (Amy) Dilling of Columbiana; two sisters, Ida Chaplow of North Fort Myers, FL and Nora Eaton of East Palestine; a brother, Henry (Rita) Dilling of North Fort Myers, FL; six grandchildren, Brooke Dilling, Devon Dilling, Shane Dilling, Timothy James Neeld, Dominique DeLucia, and Victoria DeLucia; and one great grandchild, Bailey Neeld.

A sister, Ruth Forney and two brothers, George Keagy and Jess Dilling are also deceased.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 17, 2012 at the Warrick-Kummer-Rettig Funeral Home, Columbiana with Pastor Jan Douglass officiating. Burial will follow in Crest Haven Memorial Gardens where the East Palestine Honor Guard will accord military honors. Friends may call at the funeral home from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Sunday.

If friends desire, memorials may be made to either the New Waterford United Presbyterian Church or Hospice of the Valley.
