New Springfield - John Lee Brennard, Sr., age 83, of New Springfield, died on Wednesday, January 7, 2015 at St. Elizabeth Boardman Health Center.
He was born on July 21, 1931 in Struthers, a son of the late Abraham and Ruth Wire Brennard.
John was a veteran of the United States Army, having served during the Korean War and was a member of the New Springfield Church of God. He was employed as a machine operator for United Engineering in Youngstown for 30 years, retiring in 1982 and later worked for KOMAR Plumbing.
John was the first cub master for the Cub Scout Pack 119 that started in New Springfield in 1966 by his wife, Marian and friend, Mel Lynch. John was a founding member of Boy Scouts of America, Troop 119. John enjoyed his time with the scouts and received many awards over the years. In his leisure time, John liked to watch football. He also enjoyed his outdoor activities and projects such as mowing the lawn, gardening and keeping busy. John valued his house that he built with his father in 1958. Mostly John enjoyed spending time with his friends and family. He was very outgoing and made friends everywhere he went. He will be missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife, the former Marian Hanson, whom he married on July 3, 1954. The couple just celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary this past July; two sons, John L. (Lynn) Brennard, Jr. of Phoenix, AZ and James H. Brennard of New Springfield; a daughter, Susan C. (Edward) Sprankle of Phoenix, AZ; two grandsons, Aaron Brennard and Joshua Sprankle and two granddaughters, Autumn Brennard and Amy (Justin) Roberts. Also surviving are three great grandchildren, Daniel, Carlie, and Hunter.
John was preceded in death by a grandson, Allen D. Brennard and a granddaughter, Amanda F. Brennard.
The family will receive friends on Friday, January 16, 2015 from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. at the New Springfield Church of God. Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 16, 2015 at 12:00 p.m. at the church with Pastor Jonathan Holloway and Pastor James Carmany officiating.
Burial will be in the Columbiana Cemetery.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Warrick-Kummer-Rettig Funeral Home, Columbiana.
