Jeffrey Scott "Heater" Heaton

Columbiana- Jeffrey Scott “Heater” Heaton a Columbiana icon passed away Monday, August 27, 2018, surrounded by his loving family.

Jeff is a 1980 graduate of Columbiana High School. His life ambition was to work with children. That is exactly what he did for the next 40 years.

A mainstay within the Clipper Athletic Department, athletic directors considered him their “go to guy.” As information director, Jeff coordinated information dealing with scheduling, tournaments, officials, and media.

His knowledge of rules and regulations of sports was second to none. He ran all clocks and scoreboards for all boys and girls teams.

There are countless Clipper students and athletes who have known and loved “Heater” as he was affectionately called.

Since being hospitalized this past May, Jeff’s goal was to be at the Clipper opening football game on Thursday the 23rd. He achieved that last aspiration and was honored with a special induction and plaque for his unselfish dedication to Columbiana High School and Clipper Athletics.

Jeff was also inducted into the Columbiana Athletics Hall of Fame in 2002.

He was also a huge fan of all professional Pittsburgh sports teams especially the Steelers and the Pirates.

He loved spending time with his nieces and nephew. They were his world. He also loved his adventures to sporting events and other special occasions with his friends.

Jeff is survived by his mother Nadine (Cunningham) Heaton; sister, Leslie Wilson; brothers, Steve (Gail) Heaton, and James (Debra) Heaton.

He was a loving uncle to his nieces, Cheyenne and Maggie and his nephew Jacob.

His father James Edward Heaton proceeded him in death in 2015.

To quote  Jeff one final time, we all shout in unison “Raise the Jolly Roger!”

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 31, 2018 at Warrick-Kummer-Rettig Funeral Home, Columbiana, with Pastor Jan Winnale officiating.

Family and friends may pay their respects Thursday, August 30, 2018 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Warrick-Kummer-Rettig Funeral Home, Columbiana and one hour prior to the service on Friday, August 31, 2018 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at the funeral Home.

Burial will take place at Crest Haven Memorial Gardens.
