Janet L. (Coy) Horst

Janet Louise Horst, 90 of Columbiana, Ohio, passed away peacefully after a short illness into the arms of Jesus on May 16, 2025 at the Hospice House of the Mahoning Valley.

Born on February 26, 1935 in East Fairfield, Ohio, she was a beloved wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, great grandmother and friend, whose warmth, kindness and love touched the lives of everyone who knew her.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Lawrence and Edna Coy and loving husband, Harold Horst whom she married February 1956. She also carried with her the memories of her sister, Lynda Sharp.

Janet’s legacy continues through her devoted daughter, Kathy (Steven) Blakeman; grandsons, Bryan (Betsy Theodore) Blakeman and Brad (Sarah) Blakeman; and her great grandchildren, Chase (Baylee), Lauren (Daniel), Aspen and Lexi, along with several international exchange students that call her grandma and who all adored her and will miss her deeply.

Janet was a life-long resident of the Columbiana area. Her professional career spanned many years serving loyally in the Columbiana County Clerk of Courts office as well as the New Waterford Bank. She faithfully attended church and taught Sunday school in her younger years, mentoring young adult women and sharing her deep and abiding faith in Jesus Christ.

She and Harold had a love for travel vacationing to all 50 states, enjoyed taking cruises with Kathy as well as numerous weekends making memories with their grandsons camping in their RV and fishing area lakes.

Janet leaves a legacy of deep, unselfish and sacrificial love, and will be remembered for always putting the needs of her family above her own. She leaves a deep void in our hearts, and will be sorely missed.

The family would like to thank the staff at Windsor Estates Assisted Living in New Middletown for their loving care the past two years, and the team at Hospice House in North Lima for making her final days such a peaceful, caring experience.

Services will be held at 11:00 am, Wednesday, May 21, 2025 at Warrick-Kummer-Rettig Funeral Home, Columbiana with her son-in-law, Steven Blakeman officiating. Friends  may call from 10:00 am-11:00 am on Wednesday at the funeral home

Burial will be in Zion Hill Cemetery.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Warrick-Kummer-Rettig Funeral Home, Columbiana.
