Leetonia - James E. Tingle 72, of 172 Chestnut Street, died at 9:30 p.m. Wednesday, January 16, 2013 at his home, surrounded by his family.

Jim was born March 30, 1940 in Washingtonville, a son of the late Leslie V. and Helen A. Stecker Tingle and had lived in the area all of his life. He had been employed at the former Kaiser Aluminum and later National Refractories for 36 years, retiring in 2003.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Leetonia. He was a member of the former Washingtonville Volunteer Fire Department from 1958 until 1969 and then joined the Leetonia Volunteer Fire Department in 1969, serving until his retirement in 2008. He also served on the board of the Oakdale Cemetery for 25 years. He was a former member of the Leetonia Ruritan Club.

He is survived by his wife, the former Lena Zimmerman, whom he married April 12, 1969; a daughter, Becky (Bill Wodarek) Sommers of Leetonia; and three grandchildren, Courtney, Todd, and Alexandria.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepmother, Addie Tingle; a sister, Lois Hill; and three brothers, Jack Tingle, Sam Tingle, and David Tingle.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 21, 2013 at the Woods-Rettig Funeral Home, Leetonia, with Pastor Ashley McMillin and Pastor Teresa Smolka officiating. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 2-6 p.m. on Sunday.

The family would like to thank the staff of Southern Care Hospice for their compassionate and kind care to Jim during his last illness.
