East Palestine - January 9, 2007 - James Tierney, age 71, of East Palestine, died at 7:10 a.m. Tuesday at The Medical Center, Beaver, PA.
Mr. Tierney was born June 21, 1935 in Aliquippa, PA, a son of Thomas P. and Julia Kennedy Tierney and had lived here four years, coming from Moon Township, PA.
He had been employed as a product researcher for J & L Steel and later the Dravo Corporation for many years. He has served in the Pennsylvania Air National Guard Reserve and was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, East Palestine.
He is survived by his wife, the former Anna M. Kennelly, whom he married July 24, 1954; three daughters, Marsha A. Savage of East Palestine, Mrs. Daniel (Mona L.) Tierney-Lloyd of Paso Robles, CA, and Jamie M. Tierney of Pittsburgh, PA; three sisters, Joan Smith of Homosassa, FL, Mrs. Alan (Patricia) Carlson of Venice, FL, and Mrs. Paul (Eileen) Cernansky of Venice, FL; a brother, William Thomas (Agnes) Tierney of Venice, FL; a sister in law, Carol Tierney of Moon Township, PA; six grandchildren and one great grandchild.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Bernadette Keeffer and Kathryn Hallisey and a brother, Bernard Tierney.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, East Palestine, with the Reverend Peter Murphy and the Reverend Dan Cipar officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Hopewell, PA. Friends may call at the Van Dyke-Swaney Funeral Home, East Palestine from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday and from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday.
