February 1, 2005-Columbiana-James Albert Sitler, 92, passed away at Copeland Oaks Retirement Center, Sebring, Ohio on Tuesday at 8:23 p.m.
He was born May 29, 1912 in Unity Township, the son of John Bert and Sevilla Mae (Yarian) Sitler. He owned and operated Sitler's Flowers in Columbiana for 23 years and then owned the Dairy Queen/Brazier in Columbiana for many years. He was very active in the community and was the oldest living member of Grace United Church of Christ where he had served as Deacon, Elder and president. The garden next to the church is named in his honor. He was a member of Allen Lodge No. 276 F&A M for 64 years and was Master in 1945. He served on the Fairfield School Board and was president of the Rotary Club. He was a member of the Columbiana Fairfield Township Historical Society and was responsible for having the Society's log house headquarters moved to the square in Columbiana. He was then Co-Chairman of the committee to restore the structure to it's present condition.
He traveled extensively and was past president of the Ohio unit of the Wally Byan Caravan Club International.
He was preceded in death by his first wife Sara (Sally) Ann (Davis) Sitler, three sisters, Mabel Keller, Martha Rapp, Margaret Mossor and a brother, Robert Sitler. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Olive Mae (Dolly) (Barger Camp) Sitler, whom he married January 6, 1962 and their children: Peggy (Jim) Russell of Sutherlin, Oregon; Jack (Dinah) Sitler, Naples, Florida; Jean (Jim) McQuilkin, Guilford Lake; Sam (Helen) Camp, Leetonia; Jane (Bill) Jackson, Leetonia; Betty Jo (Ralph) Lewis, Columbiana and Frank (DiAnn) Camp, Sierra Vista, Arizona. A son, William Camp is deceased. There are 22 grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren.
Mr. Sitler requested that his body be donated to the Wright State University School of Medicine in Dayton, Ohio.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, February 5, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at Grace United Church of Christ, 140 South Main Street in Columbiana with Reverend Michael Boehm officiating.
