Jacob 'Jack' Edward Steitz

Columbiana July 5, 2005 -Jacob E. 'Jack' Steitz, age 85, of 48 Lakeview Drive died at 8:00 a.m. Tuesday in the Essex of Salem.

He was born September 26, 1919 in Wheeling WV, son of Henry E. and Rachael Coppinger Steitz.

Mr. Steitz had lived in Columbiana County for 85 years coming from Wheeling WV.

He had been an Operating Engineer out of Local 66.

A member of the St. Jude Catholic Church, the Joe Williams Post #131 American Legion at Leetonia, the Lisbon Knights of Columbus #4049 and he was a past member of the 40 & 8 at Columbiana.

He served with the Army's 78th Armored Battalion in Germany during WW II.

He is survived by his wife, Helen Lou Dickey whom he married August 20, 1949; two sisters, Mrs. Caroline Kelly and Mrs. Marcella Welch, both of Salem, a brother, Carl (Janis) Steitz of Lisbon, seven nephews and nieces.

Three sisters, his twin Pauline, Marie and Margaret Steitz, two brothers, Henry and Eugene Steitz, preceded him in death.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. Saturday at the St. Jude Catholic Church with the Rev. Thomas Ziegler officiating. Burial will follow in the East Carmel Cemetery.

Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Friday at Warrick-Kummer Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to Essex of Salem.
