Jack David Shook of East Palestine, OH, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, March 19, 2026, with his loving wife, Laurie by his side.

Jack was born June 24, 1949, to the late Dorothy and John Shook. A resident of East Palestine, Jack was a member of the East Palestine High School Bulldogs class of 1967. Upon graduation, Jack attended and received his Bachelor of Science degree in Metallurgical Engineering from the University of Cincinnati in 1972.

After graduation from UC, Jack accepted a position in the nuclear submarine program at Newport News, VA. However, Jack longed for the beauty of Ohio and returned home after accepting a quality assurance position at Youngstown Sheet and Tube. Throughout his career, Jack was instrumental in developing Quality Assurance programs, not only for Youngstown Sheet and Tube, but also for Babcock and Wilcox, along with Koppel Steel Corporation and IPSCO Koppel Tubulars. Jack was a Quality Auditor and an expert in the process of heat treatment of various grades of steel. He was a respected member of the American Petroleum Institute and a Professional Engineer.

In addition to his beloved wife, Laurie, Jack is survived by his treasured brother, Robert "Bob" Shook of Youngstown, OH and his cherished sister, Carol Shook Brown of Mentor, OH. An adored nephew, James "Jimmy" Brown and a dear niece, Kelly Brown also survive. Laurie's sons, who greatly admired and respected Jack also survive. They are Christopher Burnette of New Brighton, PA and Jason Burnette of Canton, OH. Jack's much-loved cat, Pumpkin, misses him greatly.

As Jack requested, there is no public visitation and all services are private. Van Dyke-Swaney-Rettig Funeral Home, East Palestine is entrusted with arrangements. Private interment will take place in Glenview Cemetery.

Jack was a man of integrity, quiet dignity and strength. He was admired by his professional colleagues for his intelligence, knowledge and patience. He loved his family and his friends. He gave generously to those less fortunate. He enjoyed the outdoors and loved attending all the outdoor summer festivals in Youngtown, OH.

Jack's family would like to thank the outstanding medical professionals of Mercy Health System Boardman for Jack's excellent care. Additionally, the family extends their sincere gratitude to the excellent professionals of Southern Care, with extreme gratitude to Jack's hospice nurses. Laurie would like to thank her lovely helpers who never wavered and comforted Jack during his illness.

If so inclined, the family suggests donations to Jack's favorite charities to honor his memory. Those charities are the Salvation Army or the Beaver County Humane Society or The Rescue Mission of Mahoning County.

Rest in the arms of God, dear husband, brother, uncle, and friend. We miss you dearly and you are forever in our hearts.
