Iva "Toots" (Roller) Carmelo

Iva "Toots" Carmelo, age 88, of Columbiana, died on Thursday, February 13, 2025, at Lexington Place Assisted Living in Salem.

She was born on June 14, 1936, in Lisbon, the youngest daughter of the late Roy and Louise Jenkins Roller.

Toots was a proud 1954 graduate of Leetonia High School and worked as an Administrative Assistant for the East Fairfield Coal Company until her retirement in 2001. She was a member of the Columbiana First United Methodist Church.

Toots loved animals. She was particularly fond of the little critters that visited her yard. She fed the birds, squirrels, chipmunks, and bunnies and considered them all to be welcome. She enjoyed planting flowers and didn’t mind when the bunnies and chipmunks helped themselves to a few. In their younger days, she and Joe enjoyed going to dinner clubs and dancing. Later, some of her favorite times were spent at Disney World with family.

She is survived by her devoted husband, Joseph Carmelo, whom she married September 24, 1966; nephews and nieces, Kevin (Betsy) Sposetta of Salem, LuAnn (Ed) Ayers of Salem, Cathy (Randy) Selway of Leetonia, Jim Roller of Leetonia, Douglas (Connie) Sposetta of Columbiana, Annette Saulsberry and Christina Sharp of Texas, and Dennis Lipely of Arizona.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Dorothy L. Sposetta and Verda Lipely, two brothers, Roy Roller and Willis Roller, Sr., niece, Darlene Lipely Makowsky, and her beloved dog, Tawny, and cat, Satan.

The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Lexington Place Assisted Living. We are forever grateful for the love and care they provided Toots.

Per Toot’s wishes, no services will be held at this time.

Burial will take place at Columbiana Cemetery, Columbiana.

Memorial donations may be made to Columbiana First United Methodist Church or your local animal shelter. Or, pay a visit to an elderly person. It takes so little time and it will mean the world to them.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Warrick-Kummer-Rettig Funeral Home, Columbiana.
