Columbiana - Ira Grant 'Bus' Dalrymple died Friday evening, January 23, 2009, at Essex I in Salem, Ohio, with his family at his side.
Ira was born June 18, 1924 in Steubenville, Ohio, the son of the late Ira Grant and Margaret Lindell Dalrymple.
He was raised in Mingo Junction, Ohio, and following his high school graduation, he served with the US Navy from 1941 - 1945. Ira was a loyal member of the First Presbyterian Church of Columbiana for 62 years, where he served as Deacon, Trustee, and Elder. He was also a 35-year member of the Salem Elks Lodge, where he served as Exalted Ruler. Bus was an avid fan of all Columbiana Clipper sports, and enthusiastically cheered for his Pittsburgh Steelers and Ohio State Buckeyes.
Ira is survived by his wife of 62 years, the former Dolores V. Bowen, and three daughters, Pamela (Scott) Woolman, Cathy (Harry) Hofmeister, and Jill Kuhns. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. In addition, Ira is survived by two sisters, Susan (Tim) Hume and family, Jane (Bob) Leiendecker and family, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his brother, James Dalrymple, and his sister, Peggy Horst.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 26, 2009 at the Common Ground Church, 2310 West South Range Road, North Lima, with the Reverend Steve Fortenberry officiating.
