Ida Mae Mcdevitt

East Palestine - July 5, 2008 - Ida Mae McDevitt, 83, of 1950 SR 165, died at 9:20 a.m. Saturday at Hospice House, North Lima, OH.

Mrs. McDevitt was born August 24, 1924 in New Waterford, a daughter of Elmer and Augusta Feggert Gotthardt and had lived in this area all of her life.

She was a member of the Church of the Nazarene of East Palestine for most of her life. She was very active in the church where she played the piano and organ for many years. She had been employed as a waitress at the former Mackall's Shafer House Restaurant for over 30 years.

Her husband, Ross G. McDevitt, whom she married January 21, 1943 died March 3, 1989. A sister, Ann Elizabeth Romanko preceded her in death in December of 1989.

She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Robert (Sue Ann) Freeburg of Colorado Springs, CO; four sons, Gerald R. (Jane) McDevitt of San Diego, CA, George R. (JoAnn) McDevitt of East Palestine, Gary W. (Jacqueline) McDevitt of Columbiana, and Elmer R. (Sandra) McDevitt of East Palestine; 14 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, and 1 great great granddaughter.

Funeral services will be held at 12 noon Wednesday, July 9, 2008 at the Van Dyke-Swaney-Rettig Funeral Home with Pastor Mark Taylor officiating. Burial will be in Crest Haven Memorial Gardens. Friends may call at the funeral home one hour prior to the services on Wednesday.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests the material tributes take the form of a donation to Hospice of the Valley, 5190 Market St. Youngstown, OH 44512-2198.
