Columbiana, OH-Hugh F. "Butch" Madden, 68, died suddenly Friday evening, November 16, 2012 at the Salem Community Hospital after becoming ill at home.

Mr. Madden was born December 7, 1943 in Tallahassee, FL, a son of Keith R. and Dona G. Garrod Madden and had lived in this area most of his life.

Hugh was a graduate of Youngstown State University and worked as a metallurgical engineer at Babcock and Wilcox in Beaver Falls as well as Koppel Steel. He eventually became vice president of operations for NS Group and worked at the corporate headquarters in Wilder, KY.

Butch was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, East Palestine and Good Hope Lutheran Church, North Lima. He loved gardening and restoring John Deere tractors. He was a member of Beaver Valley Sportsman's Club and he taught NRA safety classes. Butch also belonged to the Experimental Aircraft Association.

He is survived by his wife, the former Beverly K. Hostetter, whom he married December 4, 1965; two daughters, Deborah Ann (John) Yurchison of Canfield and Deanna Jo (Bill) McIntosh of East Palestine; four sisters, Ann (Joe) Burgess of Negley, Mary (Jay) Jensen of Tacoma, Washington, Ruth (Brad) Druschel of North Lima and Rose Lynn (Patrick) Pieri of New Galillee, PA; two brothers, Richard Michael Madden of Columbiana and David Madden of Alabama; three grandchildren, Emily Yurchison and Jacob Yurchison and Mandy McIntosh; his brother-in law, Gerald Wayne(Margaret) Hostetter of East Palestine; a nephew Timothy Hostetter; a niece, Kimbraly Hostetter and a great niece, Karissa.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Steven and Howard Madden.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday, November 21, 2012 at the Van Dyke-Swaney-Rettig Funeral Home, East Palestine with Reverend Ralph Edwards officiating. Burial will follow in New Waterford Cemetery. Friends may call from 5-8 pm Tuesday and 10-11 am, Wednesday at the funeral home.
