Columbiana - Hubert Lawrence, 94, retired Columbiana County School Psychologist, died Tuesday, January 31, 2012 at the Parkside Health Care Center, Columbiana.
Mr. Lawrence was born October 25, 1917 in South Wales, Great Britain, a son of Edward and Catherine Connelly Lawrence. He graduated from Niles McKinley High School in 1936 and attended Ohio State University, Westminster College, Kent State University, and Youngstown State University. He earned a masters degree in Education from Westminster and a degree in Psychology from Kent State University. He served as Columbiana County School Psychologist for many years and prior to that he worked with the Niles Board of Education.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Columbiana and the State Teachers Retirement Group. He was chairman of committees to establish the Columbiana County Mental Health Clinic and the Robert Bycroft School. As a school Psychologist, he organized and supervised many classes throughout the county. He has served as president of the Niles Alumni Association and had served on the Columbiana Park Board for 15 years.
Hubert is survived by his wife, the former Lois Bauman, whom he married March 7, 1941; a son, Allan Lawrence of Sarasota, FL; a granddaughter, Julie (Dr. Ron) Ambrosia of Columbus; and two great grandchildren, Morgan Ambrosia and Ron Ambrosia, both of Columbus.
He was preceded in death by a daughter in law, Michelle Lawrence; two sisters, Ivy Graham and Mavis Ziegler; and three brothers, Edward Lawrence, Dr. Winston Lawrence, and Dr. Jeffrey Lawrence.
Memorial services will be held at the First Presbyterian Church, Columbiana on Tuesday, February 7, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. with the Reverend Carolyn Griffeth, Interim Pastor, officiating.
Memorial tributes may be made to the First Presbyterian Church. Arrangements were made by the Warrick-Kummer-Rettig Funeral Home, Columbiana.
